Yep, we're getting ready for our popular fitness walk to promote affordable housing. This year's walk is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2009. Sponsorship packets will be available in early July but you can sign up today online. Better yet, tell a friend and form a team! Invite everyone to sign up individually and we'll keep you up-to-date with the latest route and details, plus some training and motivation tips! Special thanks to our Walk-a-Thon 2009 Chair, Adrienne Eisele, for getting us underway!
Plant a Home Today!

Plant Donations/Purchases Raise Money for Homes
Gardeners of East Hawaii: this is your chance to literally "plant" an affordable home. While construction may be some people's forte, Hilo Habitat's ReStore is now seeking gardeners who want to donate plants for sale in the ReStore. We are looking for vegetables, herbs, fruit trees, flowers, shrubs, and even water- rooted cuttings of ti leaf, dracena, or other large items. Thanks to one of our regular volunteers with plant expertise, Carolyn Hedberg, for helping us get started!
Free Pots & Mulch Make Plant Donations Easier
If you're interested in promoting waste diversion as well as providing plant donations, consider growing your vegetables or flowers in egg cartons, tofu tubs, or other reusable containers. Ask your neighbors to save their "throwaways" or recyclables for this purpose as well. Also, compost to help nurture your plant donations is available free of charge at the Hilo landfill.
Food, Flowers, Cuttings Welcome & Available
Please bring your plant donations to the ReStore today. Shoppers, stop by and see what we have. Our goal is to develop a steady supply of healthy plants, especially food items, to help build affordable homes. As a reminder, 50% of every dollar spent at the ReStore goes directly to construction and the other 50% is used to provide family support, education, partnerships, and support operations.
Have Other Donations?
If you don't have plants, we always appreciate other new or gently used building materials, tools, home goods, furniture, or similar items at the ReStore. Questions? Please call us at 808-935-6677 or [ email us ].
